Solid Rear Windows in a Disco?

I have seen a number of Disco's set up for touring with the rearmost windows blanked out with a panel.

I am interested in doing this with my own Disco and wondered about the best way to go about it? Is it the sort of thing i can do myself? Could i just use a sheet of aluminium cut to size and fit it myself or should i have a body shop put it together for me?
And lastly, would there be any issues when it comes to legalities?

I'm guessing you've seen them on a 3 door. Usually they would be a commercial model for sale in the UK as it avoids some rego or insurance costs or the like. Never sold out here as best as I've ever known.

Actually all the ones i have seen were on four doors. They weren't on the back door windows, just the cargo area windows.
They were all on Aussie trucks.

They were never sold here so must have been diy ,did they have the window rubbers in with just panels in place of the glass ?

One of them did, the others didnt. Perhaps it was a panel welded in?

You could also try some one way graphic material, you see it on buses and commercial vehicles, colour coded with the vehicle they look like solid panels. It effectively blanks off the glass from the outside, but you can still see out. Did this with mine, but with a small logo as I use it for work. All my tools etc are not visible from the outside. You can get them from all the basic sign shops, Signarama, Signwave etc if you are interested.

Spray paint the inside of your windows the same (or similar) colour as the car, couple of dollars for a spray can, regards Frank.

Did you want to do this for privacy or so the windows don't smash by loose cargo or enthusiastic car thief?

Privacy = Window tint or paint
Safety/Security = Window grates are available or you could make your own.

(This is a D2 but a few types available)

Might be simpler than body mods.

Whatever you do I don't think there would be a legality issue blanking out these windows.

I've been thinking of this, how much did it set you back?

Not sure what they are worth - I'm in the industry, swapped a couple of favours for them. Whoever you try won't charge for quotes, and call a couple to make sure the prices are OK, they can vary from place to place. You are asking for printed one way graphic material with a clear laminate (without that they won't last as long).
