Noisy lifters
Well here's my deduction.
Because I used non- composite head gaskets my lifter pre-load is out.
Bugger.
Where in Melbourne could I get rocker post shims please?
Cheers

I can't see why too much preload would make your lifters noisy. Too much preload stops the beggars from letting the valves close properly. Too little oil pressure or aerated oil will cause an otherwise good lifter to rattle. Otherwise it's just a problem with stuck check valves in faulty lifters.
I have an old car that got new lifters then did 400,000km with one lifter that quite frequently took a couple of minutes to shut up after a morning start. Never replaced it because by the time you tried to find it the noise ad gone.
