gearbox
Ive had a worn syncro since i got my Disco and ive driven it the last 2 years
not a problem i just have to engage 2nd gear at a lower flywheel speed so i just avoid 2nd on the down shift! I reckon its a common problem with the gearboxes, but still a dream to drive :-)

Depends on if you have the skills to replace it or you need a mechanic to do it for you.
The synchro ring is not overly expensive $100+. The gasket kit is not expensive $20+.
Removing and replacing the gearbox etc. is the main cost.
Disassembly of the gearbox is not a lot of work or putting it back together but what usually happens is you end up doing a rebuild (synchros, bearings etc.) while it is apart so you know it doesn't have to come out again for a long time.
If a mechanic does the whole job then it will be up there with the $$$ $1500 to $2,000 for just the main basics. gear replacement would be extra.
Can you get someone to help you remove the gearbox this would reduce the cost by heaps.??
Good luck.
My 1st gear synchro requires doing but I will overhaul the whole box and do a clutch at the same time so I don't have to remove it for a very long time and I know it has been done right, so for me it just the cost of the parts so not to bad for $$$.
