take bonnet off to change the windscreen?

i did this last week and got my screen guy to remove the screen so i could clean up any rust repairs etc etc

    learn't a couple of things

you must use 2 pack paint to paint over any rust repairs. i used aircraft zinc chromate primer prior to applying the 2 pack paint

the activator for the sealant will turn other types of paint to jelly and the screen will lift and or leak

you need to place cardboard between the roof and your nice hood covering, buff it and get it back to bare metal if possible.

in one spot down the bottom of the screen i also used acid to treat the rust that i couldn't buff, and then used the primer over the top of that.

put the screen back in and no leaks!

took 2 days to do properly.

    thread is here...

Maybe there is some confusion between D1 and D2.

On D2 you have to undo at least one bonnet hinge to remove the plastic plenum cover without breaking it. Mine is broken in about 5 bits from AFAIK a clumsy and impatient windscreen installer.

PS MrCat did i PM you the number? im not sure if i have seen your post or not already. let me know if you still need it. if i were you i would get onto it ASAP. if it's bad it's bad, at least you will know. if you leave it it's not going to get better. you might be still in time and only have to fix a little bit. rust is one of those things that will only get worse and can end a car.

Hey Fausto, sorry for the delay in replying, was away for a while. Could you PM the number please?

Your Disco looks the part now

Getting the windscreen out is a bit of a hassle. one guy i spoke to said hes done some before and knows what to expect. he quote me $200 to pull the screen out, let me rust treat it and paint, then he puts the windscreen back in a few days later. another mob quoted me $130 for removal and reinst. and if they break the screen an extra 200 on top. they didnt really sound like they knew what they were getting into though.

for the seals i got quoted $359 from a WA supplier. the guy said genuine LR but this is cheaper than you would pay for genuine in the UK so im thinking hes talking out his exhaust pipe. I can get OEM sent over from the UK for $280. the LR ones would be about $450 delivered.

hope this will help other people in the future.

    heres some more info:

apparently there are heated front windscreens too similiar to the back windows. i spoke to a LR supplier and they explained this to me. so you would need to order the correct finisher depending on the type you have. he seemed to think in australia we didnt get the heater front. this only applies to the bottom finisher.

here are the part numbers for anyone interested, these are the LR part numbers

    top finisher AWR2025P1
    LH side finisher AWR2024P1
    RH side fnisher AWR2023P1
bottom finisher (non heated, see above) AWR1512P
Those part numbers are not GENUINE land Rover part numbers, they are for Pattern parts. Genuine do not have P1 at the end.
