AFAIK the LD28 and RD28 are extremely close when it comes to the bellhousing pattern. Apparently 2 extra stud holes or something.

I had a 91 Patrol carby rb30, great little motor that went better with headers & if you kept the carby also get rid of the fuel warmer & modify the splash can at bottom of carby as it restricts fuel to the 2 rear cylinders.
They had them in VL taxi's with near on a million k's on them, but be warned that they need to rev, & rev hard to get the best out of them. Also they don't like to tow or tar road hills (carby ones that is) but if revs are up there they're not to bad, almost unkillable. Go onto the Patrol Forum & there is heaps & heaps about these motors & what can be done to them. :D
:) like i said...
has anybody considered or have completed an LS1, 2, L98, etc Chev Conversion? its been playing on my mind. All alloy, heaps of torque, plenty of parts and reasonably economical for its size (would be more economical than my 3.9
Marks 4x4 has the adapters for ls1 to go into the disco, would be a much better choice than an old rb30 if your going through the effort.
