How cold are you talking?
Does it blow smoke at all when it happens?
My first thought is fuel starvation (as you've also thought). Have you checked the sediment catcher near the back?
hi,
I have a 95 300tdi. it seems to have issues....
when I drive it, it runs normal then it will loose power mid drive engine still running. sometimes it will correct it self and chug on again but I have had a time where it stoped all together and unable to get the engine running again.
I live in Ipswich and wondering if diesel waxing might be a cause as it does get cold here and I don't use the rover much apart form a 4x4 trip once in a while...
I have changed fuel filter, fuel pump, cleaned fuel tank, renew fuel lines , thus this idea. I think it happened last winter here too, however I didn't think the temp would affect the rover ...
help appreciated .

no smoke, an I had removed the fuel sedimenter.as we thought the casing was cracked....
typically blocked fuel line or solenoid connection failure

I suspect Dave meant electrical, but I'm sure I have read of both cases being the problem.... The solenoid is cheap if you want to try replacement. Search ebay or something for RTC6702.
To check electrical though, I would run a new wire from the back of the solenoid, direct to the battery and see if that fixes it. (Just remove that lead to stop the engine).
Another thought - you could also check earth strap to the engine block? Could be earth side of the connection...
Turbo hoses? Probably thought of this but? I had mine do similar and it was the turbo hoses delaminating. Mechanic thought fuel system as did I and were stumped to the problem, until we took off the 90 degree hose.
hi. thanks for the info.
I have too looked ate the turbo hose it's fine, I'll try a new wire to the solenoid and look at engines earth.
I am also wondering if a leak I have on the passenger side is an issue too. sometimes I notice a pool of water on the mat and wondering if anything important is below the windscreen, however I thought I did a quick fix by silastic on the windscreen rubber....
any thoughts there?
swing it past, the job I had on for tomorrow has pulled the pin .

you can be driving along on the high way @ 100kmh all of a sudden the rover hiccups and looses power. I change down a gear and the issue has a 50/50 chance of clearing. the rover runs fine or it conks out.
I can be accelerating and changing up gears and same symptoms , the rover hiccups , looses power , I pull over , the engine is still running.
I notice it happens more when the engine is warm, however it can occur cold. I can drive a few hundred km the rover will drive fine, but driving up the road the issue can start .
anyone experienced this before?
I have cleaned the fuel tank, water separator, changed lift pump, checked fuel lines, replaced fuel filter, checked solenoid connection, put an additive in the fuel, and put a new fuel cap on.
