New Timing Belt cause Check Engine light
Hi guys, I wonder what you are going to say about this one, because I have not clue what to think.
The Story:
The first time I changed the belt (6 months ago) and I didn't notice any change in car's performance, but someone pointed out to me that it was smoking too much. So I decided that the first guy (who is not a LR mechanic) didn't do proper job changing the belt and gave to the second guy (LR mechanic).
The second guy said that the belt was two teeth off, or something was off (a little was lost in translation from Indonesian).
Results:
- Now my Check Engine light comes on between 1200-2000 RPM. Anywhere outside of that range no Check Engine light.
- my Tacho that was jumpy or it didn't work previously works perfectly now (hence I know the rpm) (I checked the alternator cable and all before to no avail).
- Wow, the car is so much quicker now, but little more knocking I think.
The car is Jap import TDI 300 EDC. I do have a bigger intercooler and a tunit chip, (for EDC) which were not making huge difference before, but now, it feels like a rocket ship.
Any thoughts?? Who did a good job? (and if you ask me if they used pins to change the timing belt, I don't know)
Thanks!!

you may have had the ignition left on even for a second while certain sensors or connector have been unplugged and set a code in the ecu just get a mechanic to clear codes.
