So I have used you guys before with much success. So I'm hoping you can all help on this one. Here's the story.....

When out playing around on a beach I got bogged in some soft stuff. Engine spun up. Pushed clutch in and took foot off accelerator at the same time. A grinding noise comes from under the car. You can hear the grinding slow down and then click slow and stop as if something isn't meshing. Car was still in gear and able to be driven without re-engaging anything.

I've had this twice more. Once in high range and once in low. So it's not range specific. Twice in second gear once in first. Gearbox works fine all other time except when load is released like previously mentioned. So once on the beach once on a loose hill and lost traction and once I over reved a downshift while hard on the brakes. Other than those three the old girl drives fine gear box is I bit notchy between first and second

So I think it's maybe syncros between first and second. I think these maybe a little tired. Or centre diff lock half engaged and when load is released it jumps out or half in.what do you guys think I has anyone had this? If its CDL is there adjustment? All opinions/ideas are welcome. I will help with anymore info if required

I'd be inclined to drop the oil, then the main inspection plate on the transfer box and see if you have any damaged gears.

All it costs you is a couple of litres of EP90.

You can adjust the linkage for the high and low, but it's best to remove the front prop for good access.

Sounds like you might have some damage to your centre diff cross shafts and/or gears. As mentioned, drop the transfer oil and see if there's any metal in there.
