    Question GQ coils on Disco?

Was just wondering if stock CQ coils would fit rear of my 96 Disco & if so what sort of lift, only asking as I have a pair just lying around.

If you have to buy a set you may as well get springs that were made for a disco.

Just look at the springs compared to Land Rover. Are they the same diameter? how many coils and how thick is the wire? What is the free length? Do they have pigtails or are they flat like Land Rover.
If they are flat, the same diameter , wire about 15-17 in diameter with say 9 coils, free length about 16 -17 inches whatever that is in MM, they may be Ok for the back.
AFAIR GQ can be fitted but give a big lift as do Land Cruiser, and they are quite stiff compared to Land Rover springs. I may be wrong but you can check all these things easily in a few minutes.

They are the same diameter, same coil thickness but only 7 coils (not 9) & not under any weight 39cm tall i.e. not in the car. The top (or bottom) coil is a thinner diameter though, is this what you call "pig tail"?
    Thanks

No a pig tail is a small bit hanging down that locates in a socket in the spring seat. Rover springs are flat at each end ie the top and bottom coil is ground flat giving a taper on the coil ,up to D2 anyway and I haven't looked at my D2 closely yet.

The fewer the turns the shorter the spring so the higher the rate for a given diameter. So at 7 turns if the D2 has 9 then the spring will be heavier, maybe 15-20%.

The specs of my rear springs on a non ACE non air D2 are according to the chart 16.5MM diameter,9 coils free length 15.1 inches variable rate colour purple.
So probably they will be heavier about 10-15% and about .5 inch longer free length so should give about 15MM lift.
    Regards Philip A
