    Alarm ECU Swap

    Howdy.

I've got a 1996 Discovery 1 V8, and unfortunately the key fob has gone walkabout.

Seeing that I'm broke at the moment, I was looking at the cheapest way to get it back on the road. I've pulled out the heater face plate and discovered there is no spider. After some words with justinc, I figure it must be the Lucas 10AS unit that is immobilizing it.

Is it possible to just go to a self service wrecker, pull out the alarm ECU and use the fob's that come with the wrecked vehicle? Otherwise it seems like I'll have to get a mechanic with diagnostic tools to do a house call. I imagine a standard bluetooth ODBII reader is not enough.

    Any thoughts?
