    Snorkel choice. Serious question.

Hey guys, im ready to buy the snorkel. Iv come up with 2 options, however this 2 different options have 2 different air delivery methods. With a snorkel, is it just like a ram air set up, or airflow is not important?

So heres one that routes pretty retardedly in my opinion, but is $30 cheaper:
Snorkel KIT Land Rover Discovery 1 300 Series NON ABS Diesel V8 4WD 4x4 WTY | eBay

But this one has 2 bends:
Land Rover Discovery 1 300 Series Snorkel KIT Suit 1994 1999 NEW | eBay

I know its only $30, but i just spent 1.5K on other accessories and looking to save a much as possible. Thoughts?

There was a link here ages ago, and it showed that the motor will always pull air before you would get a ram effect, smooth flow helps, the cold air induction affect should help the most. I doubt you'd notice the differance between the two ...Gary

You don't state whether you have the tin can "round" air filter or the square one, you more than likely have the square one, but if you have the round one, plumb your air into the end that the air originally entered, DO NOT plumb into the side of the canister as you will be concentrating all the air flow onto the side of the filter, when it was designed to be fed air from the front, pics available if you want, Regards Frank.

Personally, And I did this, Go the 2nd (ABS) option...

Far better arrangement for the vehicle, including other accessory options.

$169 is cheap for a snorkel, must be made in Asia somewhere.

Interesting I'm thinking about a snorkel but need one that fits the side of the air box not the front where the original Intake is as I have an n70 deep cycle there now

The kit i bought was from England, and looks identical to the first one you have linked there.. It was a bit of mucking around to fit, have to chop and hack at the air box, needed to take it right out to do it properly, but ended up pretty happy with it the second looks a lot simpler to fit, but does depend whether you want to run a second battery in that hole in front of the air box, which i am, and that kit doesn't look like it will allow for it.

Just think, 5 years down the track, when you've relied on it for dozens of water crossings, are you going to be worried that you spent a bit of extra time and money?

I opted for the exspensive on due to the recommendations of the posts. My second battery is in the boot so no dramas there.
