    WHY AM I SMELLING COOLANT?

All I smell is coolant but it's not leaking...After a bout with the hot weather I've had my share of cooling concerns but although most hoses have been replaced, new expansion tank/cap and new coolant I still smell it. Is this the norm' ? am I over pressurized? (and smell the cap releasing over the said 15psi?) Am I stressing out over nothing?

Heater core leaking? Common on older D1's and RRC's in my experience. Disconnect the core, loop the core hoses so that coolant flows around the pipes freely and see if you still detect coolant smells. It's a pig of a job to replace it, tedious but not impossible.

I concur if its not the heater matrix its corrosion on the pipes going to the heater hoses and they will be leaking from there and dripping down the insulation inside the firewall. The easy way to tell is to check the aircon drains under the vehicle if you have drops of green on there then its the matrix,

Also put your hand on the carpet in the drivers footwell it will feel damp if its a bit more than a drip that's when I noticed mine had failed the carpet was really really wet

I was also thinking heater core. When mine leaked, apart from vaporising through the heater/air con vents, it dripped onto the carpet at the front of the transmission tunnel.

Definitely keep an eye on the coolant level!
