Picked up my 300tdi yesterday after it cracked the head on frazer over chrissy. I had a turner engineering head fitted but since I have had it back its making a ticking noise is this due to the new valve train settleing in or should I be concerned?

I expect they are new every thing was done at m.r autovotive I would of suspect they would of soughted the tappets they said they were adjusted
I replaced my head recently and the Genuine Land Rover Lash Caps supplied with the new head were absolute rubbish, so after checking valve spring pressures and heights and lapping in the new valves I bought a set of Crane Cams valve lash caps, I also numbered my old original valve lash caps and kept them for spares.
I don't know how many mechanics would pull down a fully assembled head to check specs. and to lap in the valves to their seats. I'll bet not many, ask your mechanic if they did. Also ask if they reused your old lash caps and what condition they were in, if they used the new breed of Land Rover caps then that could be the problem, search the Forum for posts on valve lash caps, some interesting tales, at bottom left of this page, Regard Frank.
Thanks for the info frank just got back from m.r they checked all the lash caps checked the clearences again and every thing is fine, they said maybe wrong size head gasket(I supplied the gasket) injector pump timing or maybe piston slapso after nearly $4000 no closer to having a reliable land rove.
I like their reply head gasket maybe wrong size?mechanics should be able to work that out surely? If piston slap why you no have noise before hand injector pump timing mmmm not unless they put it out? Would be hassling the boys at MK a bit just cause you supply the head gasket doesn't mean they have to put it on if it's the wrong size. Don't think someone did his job. You pay that sort of money you want it to run
My thoughts exactly it was not making that noise before i had the head replaced they said it may brought about the noise now that the head is fixed which sounds very unlikly to me? I asked the mechanic if the bores looked good and he said they were fine wouldn't piston slap cause some sought of score on the bore? Any way taking it to a reputable diesel mechanic on friday for a second opinion which means more money. I checked the paper that the head came with and its says it came with a "1 hole head gasket" anyone know what that means?

What parts did you supply?
On the old head gasket just above the Vacuum pump is a tag of the head gasket showing the correct size gasket, most have 3 holes punched in them, you need to see how many holes were in your old gasket. The holes in the tag determine how thick the head gasket should be for that particular engine. The measurement is the height the pistons sits in the bores, a good mechanic would have measured or at least checked with a Land Rover workshop what gasket is needed for your particular engine, if you take it to another mechanic explain this to him and if he doesn't know what you are talking about get him to contact Land Rover or take it to a Land Rover expert, Regards Frank.
I supplied the head which was a turner eng. head with it came the gasket set i also supplied new head bolts.
