You sure the alternators not nackered

Bloody hope not its a replacement i put in two days. so if the tacho is not working is that a sign the alternator is stuffed.

I take it you have a Diesel and the tacho works of the alternator.

Did it start playing around after you put in the new alternator.

she is a V8 bud the tacho started playing up about a hour after i put the replacement alternator in. does the tacho run off the alternator in a 93 V8?

Yeah V8 does as well

Have you taken off the wire on the back of the alternator and cleaned up the spade. Off the top of my head I seem to remember the tacho is the W connector

Yep, check your w connection on the alternator. May also pay to stick a multi meter on your battery with the car running to check the alternator is working - new or not.

What brand of alternator is it. My last one lasted 9 days. Not sure on the V8's but the Tdi's have two different pulleys. Pre 96 have a larger pulley the the post 96.
