    More paint questions

    Hey guys,

I have noticed alot of D1s getting around with fairly ratty paint and now i am noticing on the roof above the driver it looks ordinary in just one spot which i think is where the sun hits it the most. Is cut and polish a no no with this? i.e. is there a clear coat to damage or not? I mean the disco has its share of scratches but a big rough patch on the roof looks terrible.

    Cheers,

The only spot where the paint is wearing off on mine is the roof.
I think it's because the previous owner couldnt reach up there to polish it. (Nothing to protect the clear)

Did land rover use **** paint? Or is the Aussie sun to much for it?

Yeah the clear went on my 98 D1 - both the roof and the bonnet. It was already looking sad when I bought it more than 5 years ago. I had the affected surfaces brought back to metal and resprayed, whilst also having alpine window surrounds tidied up with fresh metal to replace the small bubbles that were forming. The paint is still good after 5 years (so it should be hey) except for the bush pin-striping on the sides! It's all worth doing if you plan on hanging on to the car for a while.
