Hello Everyone,
I own a Discovery 1 (1999) 3.9 V8, and am currently having overheating issues after deriving for around 20 minutes with it, there is also a gurgling noise coming from around the heater matrix area, sounds like air in the system.
Recently all the power steering and engine oil coolers pipes have been replaced.
I have had a chemical test done on the engine, pressure tested the radiator which both tests passed as good.
I was informed to maybe replace the radiator and the thermostat, which i have ordered the parts to start doing the replacement.
I ordered a new alloy radiator instead of the older designed copper ones. Has anyone bought one of these alloy radiators at all and how have they performed?, just hope i have bought the right product. the radiator i bought can be viewed at Land Rover Discovery Series 1 Range Rover 86 94 Radiator | eBay
I was also wondering if maybe i should replace the viscous clutch at the same time, but don't want to through money away on parts that don't need replacing.
Any experiences or helpful info would be great.

Thanks for the confidence in this product, will be fitting the new radiator on the wagon during the next week, once it arrives.
Did you have to buy adapters for your radiator, for the power steering/transmission oil cooler lines?

Subscriberdon't want to be the bearer of bad news but generally gurgling in the heater core is a good indicator that head gasket or just as likely slipped bore linner
to check it leave it run with the cap off the overflow and see if it is bubbling up rather than a constant flow, it needs to be at full temp

Thanks for the heads up Matt, I will give it a test tomorrow.
Just funny that if it is a head gasket that there is no visible sign of oil in the coolant and the mechanic conducted a chemical test and passed.
Could the gurgling noise be from incorrect bleeding of the system?
It maybe a good excuse to replace the 3.9 with a 4.6 cross bolt that has 80,000 kms on it, had my eye on it for a while, the seller wants $3,200 for it.
Will let you know how I go with the test you've provided.

Subscriberthey very rarely get water in the oil, I have never seen one, you might be lucky if it passed the TQ test and just a bleed issue.
I have seen it take up to 20 minutes of testing for it to show up though, if thats the case don't tow anything heavy and don't work it to hard and it could last ages, I had 1 with a slipped linner and did another 40thou before it died up the high country, climbing big hills with the temps in the 30's.
