Ok hopefully it is sorted now, the first time I did head gaskets on a rover v8 I put the dizzy in 180 degrees out and had the same symptoms as you. The second time I did head gaskets I left the the intake heater plate off and had very similar problems, turns out that two of the screw holes for the heater plate are through holes into the intake plenum.

Thanks Boony73
You may have just solved my problem, i've just done head gaskets and also left the intake heater plate off due to bad corrosion of the hose attaching pipes. Also figure don't really need it in QLD climate, and mainly running LPG. Running rough as and can hear the intake air leak (whistling noise) but counldn't place where it was from. Shall remedy tomorrow by replacing the two offending bolts and some loctite on them to stop them falling out.

No worries almost a year ago I was chasing that problem, it took me almost a week to find it. Mind you once I had fixed it I had absolutely no vacuum leaks whatsoever.
