I'd prefer to keep it the basic shock/spring setup for simplicity and its a D1 after all - I don't want to spend the value on the car in suspension haha[/QUOTE]

Ha. Mate, my Disco is a keeper and I have spent and continue to spend heaps on it.
I would not attempt to put a value on it.

Be buried in the thing if I could.

We've got King springs & Billies on ours & quite often get comments from passengers about how comfortable it is. Chalk & cheese to my mates stock sprung D1. I did a bit of easy/moderate hilly dirt on the weekend with the 16 y.o. niece as nav & she commented how it was more enjoyable than her dads 4B. (No brand name, no senseless debate)

Still running the original springs with Boge replacement shocks. As I don't climb trees or plan on crossing the Simpson anytime soon this set up is perfect for my needs.
To be honest if I was looking to carry any serious sort of load offroad I would look at upgrading the springs to progressive heavier rated unit.If your looking for on road comfort and a shock that handles in my case regular beach runs with a loaded car then I would recommend Boge shocks as a good compromise for comfort and handling AND $$$$$.
Disco's are great riding cars for what they are no point making them ride like a Patrol!

My opinion would be to stick with your standard springs for now and chuck in new shocks. The springs are soft enough as standard and I personally wouldn't want a jelly on wheels. This will be way cheaper and fix your issue without the extra expense of coils. The shock replacement should reap greater benefits anyway.

I have to disagree with the masses in regards to Bilsteins though. In my fast road cars they were awesome, and just tolerable on road in my Disco, but found them way too harsh off-road. I've also driven a 120 series Prado with them and thought exactly the same. Sorry Bilstein, but I did really love you in my Escorts.
It's better to regret the things you've done than those you haven't!

Mmm, may be different Billies to mine. I put mine on in 2005 for a 14 week trip via the Sandover, Gibb, Cape Leveque, Gunbarrel, Simmo etc. Also the Vic high country plus heaps in QLD &Northern NSW & they're still going strong. Value for $$$$$$ in my case.
