    Removing part rear seats/legal issues

Thinking of trimming down drivers side rear seat so its the width of passenger side and losing the middle rear seat.
The reason I want to mount a fridge in the gap and then when seats are folded fridge would have to move or no folding up seats.
I dont usually have rear seat passengers but occasionally it does happen so dont want to totally remove the rear seat plus having 4 doors and only 2 seats would be weird.
Removing center seat technically shouldnt be an issue but since seat would have to be cut down as passenger side wont fit as locking pins on wrong side (please correct me if it can easily be changed around) I guess the seat would then have to go through some form of an engineer check.
Anyone thought about doing this done this looked into legal issues.

I removed the narrower rear seat and my fridge sits there on the left. I can still carry two pax on the wide seat.

I removed the drivers side rear double to make room for tools and stuff. I can still carry 3 but rarely do. If you only remove the seat "temorarily" then no engineering should be required.

Another option would be to fit 2 individual buckets in the back although this would require engineering approval.

I had thought of 2 buckets but I do like the rear seat setup how it fold to a flat wall with plenty or storage space

As I understand, removing a seat even like I have done, requires an engineering certificate and the rego authorities to be advised.

My advise from the local guru is that (in Qld) if you just remove the seat and leave the belts, it is considered temorarily and no paperwork is involved.

This is true but as far as I can tell OP is talking about modifying the actual seat i.e. cutting a portion off it. That's going to require engineering.

Qld. Transport allows seats to be temporarily removed without engineering approval. Permanent removal or modification requires a mod. plate. My County is complianced as a motor omnibus. It has 9 seats. To permanently remove the four rear folding seats would require an approved person to issue a modification plate and again if you wished to return to the former configuration. However the seats may be removed temporarily from a bus to allow carriage of cargo. Brisbane City Council parking regulations allow use of loading zones for buses carrying cargo. I have had and won two disputes with BCC parking patrolmen who don't know their own regulations or don't know that a County station wagon is complianced as a bus.

If you are permanently changing the number of seating positions, you will need an approved person to issue a modification plate.
