    I want a disco!! Help

    G'day guys,

I'm on the market for a disco 1 or 2 and am looking at the V8i 3.9L. I was wondering what issues and fuel economy these get.

Is there any reason to step up to the Diesel engine? What issues does the diesel have and how is it on fuel? I don't want a fuel guzzler as I just sold my V8 79 series ute and that had that covered.

I am going to buy a stock vehicle to start with and modify it from there.

Any advice on models, engines to get or avoid would be great. Also you reckon a LS1 would go good instead of the 3.9

Cheers guys, look forward to hearing your responses.

    Welcome to the forum.
There are plenty of Disco 1's and 2's out there.

Now, let me get this right, you want a V8 but you're worried about fuel! Your solution is to put a LS1 in it!

Now don't get me wrong. I love V8's. I have six. My daily drive is a V8.

If you're worried about fuel, get the Td5 in a Disco 2.

If you intend going bush or on long touring trips, get a Td5 in a Disco 2.

If you wand an "on road" machine, yep, a V8 is the go. LS1? Why put it in a Disco? Put it in a P38 Range Rover. Wicked!

    Have you considered a Disco 3 with a TdV6?

I had a SS ute and the LS1 was providing 10L/100km. That was why I said that it would be a good conversion.

From what you've said the TD5 seems like the vehicle for me. Are they all computerised? I want something under the 6k mark. Gotta keep the missus happy with the initial price of it and then all the extras I'll just order into work and fit them up there haha I saw a TD5 for $3,999 with door damage which would involve replacing the door

Yes. If you want less electronics, go the Tdi in a Disco 1. I think they are mechanical.

If you put a LS1 in a Disco, the fuel consumption will go up. It's not just about the motor.

What sort of electronics are we talking about in the D2?

Are the TDi vehicles any good?

Electronic units for the abs and air suspension (combined unit), body control unit and auto (+ecu but you will have to change if LS1 going in). Can't think of any others right now. Uses Can bus control.

Yep so all that gay stuff that no one really wants to deal with haha

What are the 4cyl 2.5L like? Do you know the fuel consumption of the v8i?

TDI 2.5 turbo diesel = slow but good fuel economy. V8 = not quite as slow, loves petrol.

TDI is a full mechanical diesel, only electrickery for the motor is the fuel cut off solenoid, apart from starting and battery charging.

Any issues with the 2.5 4cyl? Eg head, cooling etc?
