    AUTO TRANMISSION OIL

    I am about to service the auto transmission on Ser1 discovery I have all new filters etc., but not sure what oil suits the gearbox and was wondering what others have found the best .

    I have used valvoline and repco brand both in the Dexron III spec.

    Since Castrol phased out the Transmax Z, I now use Penrite ATF FS Penrite Oil - A Better Class Of Oil - reasonably priced for a full synthetic lube. Costs around $55 for 4 litres from SCA.

    I think Castrol has reintroduced Transmax Z. I bought some yesterday from Repco West Gosford. Maybe it was old stock, but I checked Bursons and some of their branches also had it. Supercheap no longer stock it.

    IMHO Transmax Z is one of the best oils for the ZF transmissions.

    It is actually approved by ZF if you look at their website, not just "meets the standard"

    $45 now on SCA website.
