    Tyres

I know this is one of those old chestnuts, like politics and religion, that gets all sorts of reaction...but..

It's time for some new tyres on the disco, a tdi300 auto. I currently have a set of BFG All terrains fitted, and have done almost 100k. I'm pretty happy with them, they've done everything I've asked of them. So my question is, given that these tyres are fairly old, are the latest BFGs still as hard wearing as the old ones I have? (they are over 10years old), or are there other worthy alternatives. Previous experience has me shying away from anything Coopers, so I've ruled them out. Don't particularly want to spend a fortune either!

I fitted BFG AT's about three years ago and have only done 30,000k so far but very happy with them. I had Coopers before but the compound went hard and they were deadly in the wet.
I read on Myswag forum there is a new BFG AT coming out that may be of interest New BFG AT K02 ?

    Cheers

What size (tread pattern varies with sizes) and use. I think the BFG AT is an illogical tread design an the compound is hard. Tyres have developed a lot in the last 25 years

the standard size is 235/70/16, although i might go up to a 245/75/16. These tyres still have plenty of tread left but have gone very hard, and are a little scary on wet bitumen nowadays. Lots of little nicks and cuts in the sidewalls, so want to change before a big trip next month

I have 245/70's on my alloys Rob and i reckon that are great on road, never had any problem with them being skitish in the wet.
On price alone i'd be inclined to look at other brands as well, the BFG's are near on $300 each.

Where are you getting BFG's for under $300?!? Couple years back I kept getting quoted in the $400+ mark! North of Brisbane. Ended up putting Hankook ATMs on the Pajero at the time (265/70 I think for $250 a corner). They go pretty well, was really impressed.

I had BFG's on the Disco when I bought it. Wasn't all that fussed with them. I don't think they are that great as an AT off-road personally. Depends what you're doing I guess though. I started getting a little more serious off-road in the end. So chucked some Bighorns on. Love 'em. They have certainly improved over the years.

Good luck. Buying new tyres is always an adventure. I quite enjoy it actually. Get to see all the nee tyre tech out since you last bought. The pocket is never happy though.

This is what I'm looking at, i know a couple of people who have used them over the last year or so with no complaints

There really is a ridiculous difference in price...

the maxtrek tyres have shown up a few times in different patterns and sizes for what seems to be a fairly good price, trouble being that i'd never known anyone with them...until now I guess. What were your impressions? How long did they last?
