Check vacuum lines on turbo, particularly the small line behind the turbo body - if split it can lead to sluggish performance ie seems good to about 80km/h then takes for ever to get to 100km/h. Wouldn't think this would contribute to poor fuel economy.

Timing out by one tooth could explain poor economy and sluggish performance see

    Fuel filter?

VE pumps use internal case pressure to advance the timing. Anything restricting fuel flow can prevent dynamic timing advance which reduces fuel economy the most and power a little.

How many km on the pump?

Hate it when there is no obvious cause. Have you tried exorcism?

Spill time it. Then check delivery pressure while it's running.

I had similar lack of power problem, at about 90. I removed diaphragm on IP and found that star wheel spring had snapped. I replaced promptly so didn't notice a problem with fuel. May be worth looking in there?? Only a 10 minute job to have a look. Though I would think if you were using that much fuel, tons of black smoke.

    I agree with Petetheprinta.
It's either coming out the exhaust pipe as clouds of inky blackness

    or

    It's dripping down onto terrafirma

    Thanks guys,

Whats spill timing? The star wheel spring is ok as I checked it to see what the position was and if it was all tight in there.

I'm not getting loads of black smoke, as in I don't notice it during the day other than on startup. But way too much is visible behind at night. The terrafirma solution has me stumped as it is literally immaculate underneath. Well bar the oil drips... If it is leaking externally, why the lack of power at higher speeds? Maybe its leaking somewhere I haven't checked yet. Like into the bellhousing or something weird...

As mentioned earlier if it is burning it I would have thought there would be heaps of smoke. Is there any way it can leak into the oil? I drip sh*tloads and the oil level seems to drop only a little between services. Really kicking myself I didn't replace the rear seal when I fitted the motor.

    Regards,
    Lane

Apart from a leaky injector the only other way you could get diesel in the oil would be a leak in the fuel lift pump allowing diesel into the sump.
Would you smell it in the oil? Dont know

As for the lack of power, has the rubber elbow on the output of the turbo been replaced (dredded delamination)
