I bought mine from paddocks. I bought the new/improved type head.
OK so am just gonna bite the bullet and buy a new head not sure if mine is currently cracked or not but I think if its not cracked its not far off so for piece of mind was just going to replace it.
I have been looking around at prices and as much as I would like to buy it all here in Australia the price is just too expensive I can get it all for a fraction of the cost from the uk.
Looking at DLS in the uk and I know many of you have used so any feedback would be great.
Also I havent replaced a head since in about 15 years on a holden 202 so any extra advice or parts I need would be greatly apprieciated.
HEAD Curious as to what the deal is with the extra waterways. Anyone used one of these heads by any chance
HEAD GASKET Yes I looked currently engine has a 3 hole gasket
GASKET KIT
ENGINE SAVER Not overly sure of the plastic plug though how does it compare to the brass plus I currently have. Im sure it will be fine as from what I hear alot of you guys on here are running these in your trucks.
Also updating the temp gauge to something abit more useful than the stock gauge would be a good idea though not sure with what gauge any feedback on a not to expensive gauge would be greatly apprieciated
I also understand an oil change is required as well as new coolant so oil filters oil coolant not sure what if anything else is required so input from experience would be great

Turner's have good shipping rates. Get all the other gaskets you need at the same time, sometimes as a kit - head, manifold, thermo, injector copper washers etc. Search all the threads you can about replacement methods, read them and read them again - someone's already done it, learn from them.
Engine Saver, absolutely - the plastic plug is fine and needed to provide insulation for the circuit.
Temp - I use a TM2, bolted to the thermostat housing - I couldn't believe the variation it showed over the stock idiot dash one.
Oil change, also a lot of good threads, just search. Here's a recent one http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...intervals.html
Good luck, its all worth it for peace of mind and reliability.
I am in the process of replacing mine along with a few other items, like radiator, head bolts, rocker arm shaft, valve caps, new valve springs, thermostat, belts, temp sender units all hoses etc. I brought nearly all stuff of Brookwell's in the UK the lot cost me just over $1000 Aust. that included freight and was at my front door in less than a week. I got the best deal out of Frogs hollow for Bosch injectors and glow plugs.
If you buy a new head don't get new valves unless absolutely necessary you can not be assured as to what you are getting I was told that my valves would be ok as the engine has only done a little over 300,000
It cost me $120 to have them professionally removed from old head and ground to the correct specs and fitted into the new head.
I don't mean to try and tell you how to suck eggs but if you have never replaced a head on a 300 before make sure you read up on the procedure first and have a magnetic dial gauge and angle gauge to do the task properly I am 70 yrs young and have replaced many a head on petrol engines in my life And thanks to my old mate Dave who helped and shared his knowledge I learnt a lot about my engine. And I am sure it been done correctly believe me its not as simple as doing a petrol; engine
Hodgo
Get on ebay and look up autopost AUD$947 delivered to your door for the full kit including the improved design head.
MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
I have searched all these places guys except brookwells and dls does it cheaper yes even cheaper than ebay I have searched long and hard for a good price and currently dls is winning at about $830 with todays shocking conversion rate.
I don't mind people telling me how to do it as I haven't done a 300tdi yet so am seeking all the advice I can have already read multiple times the overhaul procedures from the rave disc and so many posts in this and other forums that I think I could write an article on replacing heads without actually having done one.
I bought my new AMC 300TDi head with gasket kit (Victor Rienze LMS) and new bolts in Australia for less than I could buy it in the UK, next day delivery and an Aussie address if something was not right.
I would imagine a UK unit would be over $1K AUD and would attract Import duties, Regards Frank.
I am not sure how you can say that when the new-type head is GBP295 at Paddocks:
LDF500180COM | Complete Cylinder Head - New Style - 300TDI
Vs. GBP368 at DLS for the same head in the link you posted:
Welcome to DLS - Derbyshire's Number 1 Independant Land Rover Centre
??????????
Shocking conversion rate? You should have been buying stuff in 1980's. $A1 now gets you 55p., in 1980 it was 33p. I know, I even went there.
I ordered Complete Head kit from Autopost for a friend last month on a Friday afternoon
Kit arrived Tuesday morning on mechanics doorstep in Geelong
