FWD disco (rear shaft removed) safety question

Hey guys, removed the rear shaft in my land rover discovery due to the diff blowing. Iv driven it around the block ok, however i have a longer journey tomorrow.

What i need to know is:
Will the yok come off the diff when driving?
Is that phillips head screw all thats holding the handbrake drum on and will it hold for a drive?

I need to do a 100km round trip tomorrow involving highway (100km/h).

I assume you mean the driveshaft flange. In which case, No.

Yes and Yes if properly torqued. If concerned you can put the nuts on the propshaft bolts.

The main thing to remember is to take it easy on the CVs. Accelerate gently off the line and when going around corners.

Yep, yet another wheel bearing. A needle or few must of lodged themselves into place giving off the impression there was no movment. Pulled axel out for the drive tomorrow and bam, first spindle nut falls out, with some needles to follow.

    Angry You said it!!

It looks like you certainly do hate your Disco, it makes me shudder to think that a set of such poorly maintained wheel bearings could be driving around on public roads let alone highways at 100Klm/hour.
Be thankful it is a Land Rover, any lesser poorly maintained vehicle may have killed you (or someone else) a long time ago.
Time to spend a bit of money and get that Disco back to a roadworthy condition, I reckon. Gaz

Id say far from poorly maintained disco. As everything in the engine bay has been replaced/rebuilt. Just did a wheel bearing the other day and checked the other for movment and none gave any signs of movment. However in the past 2 days iv done about 1000kms, compared to the round town/bush driving iv always done.

RTC3511 hub seals are needed, and even using greased bearings you'll get good life out of the bearings as they won't allow water in.

Don't need wheel nuts either by the looks. Ricks right on the money with that hub seal and convert them to oil feed no more problems

Those bearings look dirty and rusty so i'd say the seals let go way back and are letting water in, i have never had to replace any LR wheel bearings in 20 years of ownership.
I check them, repack with grease and replace seals and they are good for another 20K or so. Even my leaking rear hub only needed a repack and seal replacement and i was slack with that one .

    Unhappy Nuts???

Yes I think two missing wheel nuts says a lot.
I've most of my life in NSW been against all the red tape of roadworthies, but for the last 13 years now living up North I have seen some atrocious vehicles that, if we had annual roadworthies would have been put off the road and sent to the scrappers or properly fixed up to a safe condition.
Such vehicles exist and thrive here in Queensland because the chances of being caught by the "roadies" and authorities is pretty slim.
The Disco can be a fun vehicle to play in the water and mud with but they also require maintenance.....and not just under the bonnet. Gaz
