Angry Timing cover oil seal leak

    G'day
Anyone ever had a new timing cover oil seal
Leak ? I've just completed a top end freshen up on the 3.9
New cam , lifters , chain , gears, rods , reco heads.
Looks like it's leaking around the new seal.
I do have penrite running in oil at the moment.

Just hoping I don't have to pull it apart to
    Try another seal

    Yes, sorta.

Had a 3.9 D1 that we inherited from the sis-in-law. It had just has the timing case seal replaced, which leaked almost straight away. The mechanics that done it informed her it would need a full engine rebuild as the crank must be bent ????

When I changed it, I found the seal they had fitted was not in straight. They don't push up to a shoulder, so I made a installation tool to seat the seal square and to the required depth. It didn't leak after that.

Also check the crankcase breather system is not blocked. The port where the vapours are drawn into the throttle body can get blocked with gunk over time.

What brand of oil seal did you get? Some of the cheap aftermarket ones are poor. Go Corteco. That's if the seal was properly fitted in the intial place and the crank shaft has no burrs on it.

And check that the sealing surface on the damper is not worn which will require a speedy sleeve to repair.
