    Battery drain in 6 hours

    Hi guys i went for a bit of a 4x4 on the weekend and the battery light has come on , so i went home and thought ill check it it the morning(everything still worked and it drove fine) .Checked it around 12ish and had a dead battery... thought maybe some of the bumps had broken it so i bought a new one, battery light still on but car fires up fine 6 hours later in the car park brand new battery is flat and i got a few good shocks off the car to.
    Alt is fine and charging . its a 98 3.9v8 with lpg and petrol,i did the bosch ignition mod last year and replaced the coil ... any help welcome thanks

    You got shocks from 12 volt battery? unlikely. Maybe your ignition circuit is spitting sparks where it shouldn't. You need to eliminate circuits one by one to see whats draining it.

    It's probably an internal short in the alternator causing a permanent battery drain but still allowing some charging. Disconnect the alternator output cable and see how long the battery lasts. Electric shocks from a 12V system are an indicator of inductive loads on the system, like the coils inside an alternator. Also your alternator will probably feel warm as it discharges the battery.
