New hearing aids cause whine in Disco 1

I recently had new hearing aids fitted and as a result my 98 Disco 1 300tdi auto has started whining.
It whines under load and when I back off the throttle. There is a sweet spot in between where it doesn't.
It does it in all gears at all speeds (don't know about reverse). Transmission in neutral, coasting, no whine. I put TC in neutral and accelerated through gears (went nowhere obviously) but no whine.
My wife tells me the noise has been there since I purchased vehicle, however I'm convinced it started after I fitted my new hearing aids.
Any suggestions what it may be? Transmission, transfer, diffs? I can't tell where it's coming from. Thanks

Pete, a tongue in cheek emoticon would have been appropriate.

    Or are you serious?

Obviously a classic case of "ignorance is bliss"
    A couple of options:
    * turn off your hearing aids and return to the previous state of bliss

    * the "sweet spot" is when the gears are "coasting" and are not loaded on either acceleration or over run... so there's probably an issue with a (flange?) bearing or possibly the crown wheel and pinion interface...is there any noticeable slap or backlash with either of the diffs?.

    * How many km on the odo?

    * How long since you have replaced the fluids in the Transfer Case, diffs and auto trans?

If the fluids are due for replacement, I'd consider replacing them in stages and seeing which if any, refill brings about a noticeable change.

While you are under the vehicle attending to these matters, check to see if there's any significant lateral movement in the drive shafts. You will need to put it on jack stands, no hand brake and in neutral to check this...

Hoges, done 226,000 kms, all fluids changed at 225,500 kms along with new filter etc for transmission. Tranny fluid changed again after 500kms. Haven't done the transfer case yet but will do that this week. To my limited knowledge, no slap in diffs I will check up on other suggestions in coming week. Thanks

Hmmm, Interesting problem, i doubt a new hearing aid would produce a mechanical whine, maybe electrical?? try wrapping the power cable to the ECU around a piece of Ferrite Rod...

My cook is always telling me I am deaf and should get a hearing aid. My opinion is that I have selective marital hearing.
