    V Belt to Serpentine

    Hi All,

Well my mind is off again, always thinking about something Landy Related, here is my question, i have a 93 D1, 3.5 V belt engine, i have decided to put a 3.9 in it and i have a COMPLETE engine on the way, can i put it in with the Sepentine belt Arrangement, will it bolt straight in or are there other mods that need doing?

    thanks
    Kevin

You will have to change loads of smaller things like the air cond hoses, oil cooler hoses, power steering pump connections, alternator wiring, injection temp sensor plugs etc. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches by just using the front housings and inlet manifold off the 3.5 at the cost of a couple of gaskets.

Look, as I said before, either mod your wiring to reach the sensors etc in different positions on the 3.9 or just swap the entire manifold. In any case, inlet gaskets don't last forever and are worth changing, and you can fit the 3.9 injectors to the 3.5 manifold if you choose.

I converted my 3.5 flapper EFI v belt Rangie to Disco serpentine belt 3.9. I used all the Disco EFI as well. No big deal. There is some mucking around with A/C regas and oil cooler hoses, but I think it is worth the effort. The Rover v belt set up is atrocious.

Ok so if I get the oil cooler hoses from the doner vehicle will they work or do they need to be made up, bare in mind im probably going to use the trans that was mated to the 3.9 as well as im getting it all in one package. Basically, when its done it will be a 93 pre update witk a complete 96 drivetrain, I would like to use the serpentine setup but happy to keep it v belt if thats easier, also I will be getting the ECU as well, will that plug straight in or are the looms different?

I agree with BigJon, the V-belts system is terrible. It'd be worth changing to serpentine, it is so much better.

I fitted a radiator and cooler lines from a serpentine engine to my Rangie, all bolted straight in. I assume it would be the same for a Disco (more likely to be the same, so I am sure it will be).
