31x10.5R15,no lift, rims +10 or something like that, just clears on front, rear guards need a camel cut, just rubs on top of rear wheel arch.

Same Disco with 245/75R16's on +26 rims just misses on rubbing on the top of rear wheel arches but still needs camel cut.

    Disco 1:

215 85 R 16 are nearly 31". They fit OK but rub the rear quarter panels. Front fits fine, just a minor adjustment to the steering stops.

As an alternative to the Camel cut you can space the rear quarters out half an inch and bend the guard lip in. No cutting required, just one hole in the bottom of the quarter panel where you can't see it. If you compare these pictures to your car you'll see what needs to be done. You can see the old mounting hole for securing the rear quarter panel and imagine where the new one needs to be. The oversize nut is just there as a spacer.

Addendum: you need to trim the inside bottom lip of the bodywork at and angle (seen RHS on second picture), with a hacksaw else it will catch.

That's interesting, 215/85R16 clear everything but the radius arms (need steering stop adjustment) on my classic rangerovers.

Did the disco lose some tyre clearance in the back guards to fit more seats?

My 215/85R16's measure 775mm diameter (30.5 inches) and 250mm wide carcass (~9.5 inches).

If you look at post 7 on this thread (can't make the site let me post the same photo twice) http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...roof-rack.html this is my disco with 31x10.5-15 on 10+ Dynamic rims, with KM2's. The flares are just the stick on type over standard arches, so no cutting, but it does have a 2" lift.

Photo here is with 31x10.5-15 BFG AT's on old Gotti mags, same offset.

Went with 15's as the Gotti's were available, and tyres are way cheaper. I got the 15" Dynamics so I could have roughly the same size tyre as a spare between a AT (KMO) and MT (KM2). The KM2's are slightly larger even though they are both 31's, which is why I say roughly the same.

By the way, they look close but do not rub.

The 215/85R16 measured 775mm when new.
Which is why I said they were nearly 31"

    They hit the rear panels.
Which is why I made the changes.

    YMMV.

The clearance is the same, it's just the shape of the bodywork.

They clear on the Rangie because the bottom of the rear quarter panel is about 1cm further out, and doesn't have a massive metal lip bent underneath at 90 degress - designed to shred the tread.

I've had the 215's and aggressive 7.50 x 16 on the Rangie (the 7.50s used 5.5" Series LR wheels) with no mods except the steering stops.
235s modified the bodywork to suit themselves.

    Best wishes,

    Andy

Personally I'm happy with my ability to use a tape measure on the actual tyres.

It must be out of calibration by 1cm or so. Probably part of a bad batch, because it looks like Dougal had the same problem when he was measuring his wheels.

31 10.5 15s with a small camel cut, still rubbed due to offset on rims
