"the diagram swap on a D1 is a very simple job. More DIY than motor trimmer. "
You are right. Just found a 3 part video series from Exmoor Trim on YouTube showing how to take apart the seat.
Part 1 Exmoor Trim Discovery Seat Re-Trim Kit - YouTube
Steering box was leaking like a sieve so decided to get a spare from the wreckers from a low k vehicle, as i was removing mine i found all the mounting bolts loose and the tie bar bolts no even finger tight.
Replacement box in and no leaks so far, will put a seal kit in mine for a spare.
Not fun lying in the dirt lifting the box in one hand and doing up the bolts with the other, also dropped the box on my right foot [bawl] luckily not from high up or directly on top.
Installed an instrument light dimmer.
Bought the unit secondhand from ebay for about $20(LR part AMR2745).
No wiring for it in my D1, but traced wiring via Haynes Repair wiring diagram, located specific wires spliced connected .. all good.
Just had to pull instrument binnacle apart to route some wiring up to the plug .. that was the biggest stuff around.
My only mod from a std install was that my 1Gauge runs a low light level for night driving based on instrument lights coming on. The 1Gauge dims the screen when it senses a voltage across the panel lights.
The dimmer must work in a PWM mode or something, as when it was connected up and working, the 1Gauge flicked high-low repeatedly.(no real steady rate tho, just randomly).
Radio (Pioneer) dimmer light sensing circuit works the same way, but wasn't affected so no need to touch that section.
So I had to figure out a way to fix that. In the end I just bypassed the dash light wire and connected it direct to the input source(for the dimmer switch).
So all ended up working as planned.
ps. I hate bright dash lights on a backroad in the dark, so this was a plan I've had for a while now.
I thought about getting a variable resistor thingy from the likes of Jaycar and suchlike, but I prefer the cohesive look of a genuine device.
Doesn't dim as low as I thought(or hoped) it would, but its now much better than the blinding, 'in ya face' power of the LEDs, which are great around town at night but too bright on a backroad in the dark.
Like the old man said in Life of Brian ... "I was blind and now I can seeeeee!"
Disco was not running well on petrol. So I started with the simple things first. I changed the petrol filter again and that has solved the rough running on petrol. Would have be starving for fuel. But as I posted I have already changed the filter about a year ago. Must have been some gunk in the tank.
Cheers Hall
since purchasing my d1 on saturday afternoon i have
replaced broken door handle
updated head unit to something bluetooth capable with a 4 channel and 12 inch subwoofer and rockford fosgate component speakers replacing the old mtx units in the back
changed engine and gearbox oil changed oil filter on engine
fiteed and 99% wired in a lightbar mounted to the roof rack that come with the vehicle(just have to figure out the headlight loom and why its not doing what it is suposed to lol)
washed it
today or tomorow i will fit my domin8x from 4wd supacentre into the tjm winch compatible bar that come with the vehicle
oh btw hi im michael :)
If you weren't so far(time not distance) .. I'd come up and you can do mine too! :p
The only things I've done with or too my D1 recently have been drive to Vic high country .. 16 Mile Jeep track last week.
Yesterday I did King Basin Rd and Wild Horse Gap Tk.
I will have to wash it either today or tomorrow, as I have to fix the front of the sump oil leak that I must have cause when I did the timing belt a few weeks ago.
Up until I did the timing belt, zero oil leaks .. which kind'a freaked me out at first as I assumed all the mechanicals that NEED oil must surely have been emptied out or something.
The concept of a Rover/Landrover and no oil leaking makes no sense to me .. and gives me nothing to do .. so, with the above, I now have something to do.
today i fitted a 90mm intercooler and rockford fosgate components into the rear locations tomorow im pulling gearbvox out and gunna try get the replacement one in and hopefully get my winch in and then mod the shroud so my intercooler fits better
Oil and filter change
Fuel filter
Drove it, love it.
