I changed my glow plugs this morning .. well what I thought was this morning .. was actually afternoon.
I'd lost one of the 7mm nuts that clamps the glow plug wired loom, so I converted a pretty easy 1 hr job into a 4 hr ordeal.
Finally found that I had one single solitary nut after 3 hrs of walking to the local auto shops only to realise it was past 1PM, walked back home to scour every nook and cranny to finally find one of those lil tackers.

Just as I fired it up, brother turned up in his D2 for us to fit his new injector wire.

But, while you're working on your phone cam skills, I'm probably looking at building up some D2 v8 head gasket replacing skills(not that I have any tho).

I know which skill set I'd rather be working on tho!

I have a question about your injectors.
Were they corroded in and hard to wind out? I need to do the seats on a couple of mine and my biggest concern is breaking one off in the head.

Haven't done the injectors yet.
Wanted to do things one at a time to assess the differences they each make.
So only changed glow plugs.
1,2 and 4 came out easy. #3 was in tight, no amount of twisting would really free it up. Used a long grip lock pliers to lever it out. Not easy, but not hard either.

Next free time, I'll do the injectors. (I have a week off coming up soon).
My main concern is if the lift pump doesn't help to prime the lines, more so than the injectors coming out.
And even if the lift pump does prime the lines, the chances of it crapping itself whilst doing so is always there too.
Been researching an electric pump mod at the same time.

I doubt you'd break an injector off in the head. Their solid as a block of steel.
I suppose what could happen(dunno this, just a theory) is that if it were really stuck in the head, and you forced it out on an incorrect angle, it could mark/wear the softer aluminium ??

I got myself a set of new injectors, with a view to get the old ones recoed at a later date, for use at a much later date!
Haven't yet seen what the method is to clean up the seat faces either. will have to look into that too.

Wasted 2 or 3 hrs getting nowhere today.
Finally had the time and weather to fix the front main seal I should have changed when I did the timing belt a couple of months back.
Pulled out the bits that get in the way(easy) and started to remove the harmonic balancer.
Thought it'd be easier to remove than when I did the belt, as it was only a couple of months ago I removed it(hard, but came off) with the harmonic balancer removal tool(Toledo) I got for the job.
When I reinstalled the balancer a couple of months back, I made sure to use some anti seize(silver based I think .. locktite brand) on the balancer and crank so that it wasn't too hard to remove in a few years time.

Instead of coming off, I broke the very sturdy looking tool instead! [bawl]
The central spindle on the tool must have stripped it's threads, as it got stuck trying to undo it. Hard time removing it too now that it was all stuck on the balancer.
Balancer only moved about 5 mm outwards
Chucked in the bin on my way back into the house .. and now can't remove the balancer to replace the seal .. so it's still leaking! [bigwhistle]

Now the really hard part .. going to my mechanic to get him to do it, and having to explain to him why I couldn't do it, and not hearing the end of it for the whole time I'm up there! [tonguewink]

Sold my Disco, someone offered me a good price for it and I said yes. New owner is more than happy (him and his other half were arguing over who was driving it home they liked it so much [bigsmile]). I advertised it a couple of months ago but got sick of ****heads who offer me peanuts for it or were just taking the **** :censored:.

Why did I sell it? Always been more of a Rangie classic fan that's all.

Front main seal(inner).
Finally got the time, and off my posterior, to do it.
Like an idiot, I didn't do it when I did my timing belt a few months back and has been leaking ever since.
To eliminate the environmental vandalism this leak would have posed, I fitted a brass t-piece where the wading plug goes. On one side of the 'T' I used a tap, on the other side I fitted a breather.
I could keep an eye on the 'oil level' via the clear breather hose, and every week I'd drain the build up into a bucket and into a container for proper disposal.
Considering the leak, the inside of the cover was pretty clean, I thought that the belt was going to spray the oil 'everywhere' but it didn't.
There was a light film build up, which wiped down easily enough. About 50ml buildup at the bottom of the timing case when I opened it up.
Seal replaced (and outer one again too) .. and of course the timing went out of whack! [tonguewink]
I took every precaution to be sure nothing moved as I removed the belt(I have the timing kit, but this time didn't use the crank pin!) .. and of course the crank moved by about 5 degrees(or less).

Undid everything all over again, and again .. making sure I put the belt on the way I marked it before removal, and confirmed that the crank had moved.

Bugga!
Had to come back in, to look for the info re timing it again, hands filthy, hard to do, so back out again looking at the crank key posi, and made the decision to turn it back to TDC by 5 degrees or less :p

Anyhow, lots of to-ing and fro-ing with the belt and stuff, finally got it looking timed better, turned crank a bit, and a bit more. .. watched tappets moving, felt confident I had it right ... prayed(to an almighty deity I don't even believe in!) and hit the starter.

Perrrfect! :D

Little 300 starts, runs, idles, and revs out(although I never rev it past about 3-3.5K RPM) but it feels fine.

.. oh! and of course it had to rain intermittently just after I realised that the timing was out .. so it was never going to be smooth sailing no matter what I did today.
I got drenched, tools all got drenched too, tried my best to keep all important items dry(tappet area and stuff) .. had to pack tools up in the rain, was ****ed with myself for allowing the timing to move out, not drying tools as I packed them away .. now they'll probably all rust .. and I'm to lazy to do anything about it.

Searched for the cause of my heater blower fan not working and blowing fuses.

Found a wasp nest in the fan......
