Battery Light on Dash
I have recently purchased my first Land Rover Discovery, it is a 1993 V8 Manual. I really don't know to much about them at all and I am after some advise in regards to a technical issue. The battery light on the dash has been on for about the last 2 months. I asked a mechanic and they said alternator but as I said it has been illuminated now for about 2 months. It seems to get brighter the move you rev the engine, at idle it is almost not even on. Everything else seems to work fine, stereo, wipers, lights. Since this had occurred though and I am not sure if this is related or a separate new issue my air con seems to cause a miss in the engine while running. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Take it to an Auto Electrician and get him to put his test gear on and he will tell you exactly what's wrong, Regards Frank.

Your alternator is suffering from a burnt out diode inside and will be operating at a maximum of half its rated output. Find a replacement at your leisure before it fails completely. As for the misfire it probably means the battery voltage is down as the alternator is underperforming.
