V8 Disco - possible injector failure?
I am seeking some help from the wealth of knowledge that exists on this great forum,
I have a 95 V8 disco which is running poorly and to summarise as follows:
It starts 1st time and idles nicely – although an occasional mis-beat in the exhaust note. Listening to the engine under the bonnet it seems quite. In neutral or park, when increasing the revs from idle there is a slight vibration/hesitation at about 1100rpm then revs ok upto about 2100 were there is another noticeable vibration. From there increasing the revs upto 3500rpm is ok although sounds a little rough almost like slightly retarded timing. When driving taking off at light throttle is ok, but putting the foot down there is a lack of power and it seems to slip into 2nd gear too early at about 1500rpm. Continuing to drive it has no power and sounds as if its running on 7 or less cylinders. The vibrations are still there
When last at the land rover specialist for a service they checked out the compression = and is as good as new, MAF and other sensors all working and no faults on the ECU. They indicated most likely injectors. And quoted me $300 per injector plus labour – which I think is outrageous. I have since found a place in the UK (Island 4x4 that can supply 8 new injectors for 250 pounds including air freight and also Motomann from the US, $304 US for 8x recon’d injectors.
I have replaced the spark plug leads with a NGK set and spark plugs are also new replace at last service. When replacing the leads I found the dizzy cap was on backwards!
The ignition coil is about 15000kms old and the same for the dizz cap.
Do the symptoms sound like stuffed injectors? Any other probable causes.
Is replacing the injectors a simple job or will I need to do something with the ECU?
All advice greatly appreciated,
Best regards Anthony

The ECU in your vehicle is too rudimentary to detect injector faults and does not need resetting. The injectors are exactly the same as on a multitude of other common 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines sold worldwide. I've successfully used EA to EL six cylinder injectors on a LR 3.9. Reconditioned Holden/Chev/Ford injectors aren't very dear either. There are upgrade models (e.g. "Gen 2") available from the US on ebay, other people will know the details. Replacing them is relatively easy once you've undone the plenum chamber via six allen bolts from the top.
Oh and if you're still running the original Lucas ignition module you may benefit from a Bosch upgrade:
