I'm still convinced it must be pads or discs. Maybe they are glazed? Some google searches make it sounds plausable. I don't really know what symptoms of glazing are... A few sites mention if the pads and discs feel polished, then they're glazed. I would definitely say mine feel polished! Also plenty of sites mentioning you can lightly sand to remove glaze.

Maybe someone more qualified can give us some advice.... Calling d2dave?!

It was stamped onto the seal itself.

Any play in the swivel bearings? - did you replace them with the refurbish?

Have you also rechecked the wheel bearings - maybe they have loosened or settled after installation.

Have you checked the brake disc shields are not somehow coming in contact with a brake disc just ever so slightly with a small bit of movement in the hub bearing.
There are a couple of places where the shield can be real close to the disc, I have just done a full front axle re-bearing and re-seal job on my '97 D1 and the left shield was distorted slightly and showed witness marks where it had been contacting the rotating disc at some time. Gaz

Yes I changed the bearings and will jack it up and have a look this arvo.
Drove to work without the mud shield today and squeaking persists - could have reduced hut not sure. Will do some kore driving this arvo.

Hopefully I'll get around to trying a few things later this week.

I'm thinking I'll try lightly sanding the pads and discs. Worst case I ruin them and need to buy more. Mine aren't new anyway. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take the hub apart again - I'm getting a bit sick of that job!


Following on with the seal depth topic - I assume you are using the grease seal? I'm using oil seal RTC3511. I had a look at a spare one last night and it doesn't look like it should be pushed in like you are describing.

I wasn't sure how to interpret the instructions on the seal so did some googling and found a few forum posts that suggested we press them in to 4mm below flush.

I'll check my bearings tonight and if they are loose I'll go in and have a look at the seals and see if there's any evidence of leaking or damage.
