    Red face Squeaky right wheel

    Hi all,
I've had a squeaky right wheel when turning left for a while now (assuming with extra load on it something was suffering :P ).
I recently refurbished the swivel housings and replaced the wheel bearings but it still squeaks when turning left...

    Any thoughts?

CV looked fine as did axle.

Stub axle land was marginal (some wear) and I didn't replace the bearing as I didn't have one and needed to go away yesterday.

Is there any test that would indicate if the stub axle and/or its bearing would be at fault here?
The squeak squeaks as the wheel is turning.

    Or any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tom.

Brakes, does it stop if you light touch the brake pedal?

Didn't think of trying. Will do this arvo.

I replaced all rotors and pads less than 2 years ago and all looked fine too.

How was the hub seal? I have seen them incorrectly fitted ( depth too shallow) and the seal wears prematurely around the outer lip resulting in the garter spring rubbing on the stub surface causing a squeak. Is it possible that when you removed your hubs the seal was moved out wards?

I'll be interested to see if this is your brakes. I have the same thing on front right wheel when turning left. I am 99% sure my noise is brakes.

The background to mine is that I've had a leaking rear hub oil seal for ages and I always thought that when I finally fixed that and cleaned up the disc and pads that the noise would go away, but it has not.... I've also overhauled the caliper thinking the pisons might be sticky, but that didn't fix it either. Now I'm wondering whether I change pads or discs first.

I don't suppose you have also had oil or grease contamination on your pads and/or discs?

    Thanks Strangy.

I changed the seals when I did the bearings.

Now you mention it, the right hand seal was way too shallow but the lip didn't look overly worn. I should have kept it to have a look but didn't.

I made sure I seated the new seal to 4mm below flush as measured with a micrometre.

A rattle has also developed in that wheel when slowing down. It's not brake related and doesn't stop when I apply throttle.
Initial guess is a rattling brake rotor mud guard but haven't had a chance to get into diagnosing that.

Judo, I'll report back after I drive home this arvo. It seems to only happen after everything warms up too so there might be a clue there.

There is no unusual pad wear on that side and is similar to the other side too.

I haven't done pistons or seals but I hadn't suspected them thus far.

Is your squeak present when things are cold?

I don't think cold/hot makes any difference, although how bad it is does seem to vary a bit. I always find it hard to find correlations in these things, but I have come to think that dusty roads make it worse. If it rains it doesn't do it at all - either that or I can't hear it from all the extra road noise!

Sounds like we may have the same problem.

If it's not the brakes I reckon it's either the stub axle or CV related.

Well I repalced my stub axle with a brand new one 2 weeks ago. Problem has not changed... So it's not that either! (For me at least...)

I'm still convinced it must be pads or discs. Maybe they are glazed? Some google searches make it sounds plausable. I don't really know what symptoms of glazing are... A few sites mention if the pads and discs feel polished, then they're glazed. I would definitely say mine feel polished! Also plenty of sites mentioning you can lightly sand to remove glaze.

Maybe someone more qualified can give us some advice.... Calling d2dave?!
