Thread: transfer case queiries

Hi all
was out wheeling yesterday in my D1, headed up a hill and thought that i may have had a problem with a slipping clutch.

My question is, is the transfer case a viscous one or is it full mechanical? I ask this because it felt like clutch was slipping as i hadnt lost all power for approx 2minutes of hill climb. Then after i stopped to inspect it i lost all drive to rear wheels.

Got home with the centre diff lock no problems. I know they have problems with axles breaking but thought this would lose me power instantly?

Its a 97 D1 3.9L

Anyone have any ideas?

All mechanical in the disco. The model is lt230. searching for that will give you endless information.

Time to jack the vehicle up and see what is broken.
