    rocker cover bolts

    anyone remember what size the socket is for the rocket cover bolts???

    iv gone through everything i had nothing seems to fit them either just to big or far too small

    ps: im fixing it up to get back on the road so needs to pass road worthy

    What engine is it you are trying to do the rocker cover on, V8 or Tdi? Gaz

    find a 1/4" drive 8mm MULTI hex socket

    They are 5/16" or 8mm 12 point heads, a very rare socket type in that size. You may have to hammer on your least favourite 8mm 1/4 drive socket to get them undone. They are rarely all that tight. Replace them with some old style Philips head ones or some new hex socket head cap screws.

    Found a socket at super cheap to fit it, I have kept it safe especially for this job,

    Actually mine were that loose I unscrewed one by hand and took it with me, I had only recently bought the vehicle and was looking for an oil leak, the entire inlet manifold had a lovely coating, sometimes all things need is a tighten up!!

    wow, yeah mine cover gasket was done 5 years ago and i lock tight them down, but recently see that the gasket has become brital and time to replace i actually got some new 1/4 allen key type to make life so much easyer,
