Bugger, don't you hate that.
the rear drivers brakes seals blew out so I ordered new seals and pistons, finally I had time this morning to fit them. Pulled the brake calliper off, pulled the piston, seals and seal caps out; tapped in the new seal caps and as I did my last tap to ensure they were fitted tight - realised I had put them in the wrong way round so now the only way to get them out is to destroy the caps.
I am that bloody peeved with myself I have no words that I am allowed to type here.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Should be no big deal to remove, use compressed air to push the pistons, (if this is what you describe as caps), out. Use a bit of care as compressed air can be dangerous to use, it can turn things into rapid projectiles, wrap the parts in an old towel or a rag to contain the bits ejected. Once one piston is out to edge of it's seals or in a position to be grabbed try to keep it there in that position to maintain a seal and apply the air to the remaining piston/pistons, once they are far enough out to grab hold of they are easy to deal with and turn around. Unfortunately it's not the pistons, it is the steel cap/ring that holds in the outer seal closest to the brake pad.
As I have bedded them in properly there is no gap between it and the brake body - over it, so I am going to flat bed it to a mechanic to fix. What really gets up my nose is I am a tradesman and pull apart and rebuild things for a living yet damned near every time I do something for myself on the landy I end up stuffing it.
So so angry with myself
Gazby. From what I can gather from the OP, it is not the piston that is in the wrong way but the dust/dirt seal. I am guessing that it is a knock in fit, like an oil seal, and that they get damaged removing them.

so I finally got it, filed a tiny flat head screw driver to razor sharp then gently worked it down and around and got both of them out without damaging them.
Still angry with myself but at least it's done
Good man. Persistence beats resistance in this case!
Bitz, you will probably gather now from my post I have never had to do a brake caliper job on a Disco.........yet, have done many other types and makes over the years but not a Disco, (and I now own two Disco's). Honestly, I was wondering as I wrote....... caps, caps, "how would someone put Caliper pistons in backwards", but here goes.
I have found on the "Forum" sometimes terminologies are many and varied for some parts being described.
Anyhow glad it all worked out ok for the job in the end, you sounded a bit despondent, been to that place myself when I have made a "blue" with putting something together. Gaz![]()
I feel your pain Blitz !
