Abs problems and cures
I have a 1994 Es disco with abs playing up every now and then only in times of trouble like down big ruts and when pulling up at a stops after driving on freeway for a while I think other owner pulled globe just about to do brakes so just wanting to know what sort of stuff go on them before I start diagnosis on her.

I think i've got the same issue with mine. Does it stutter heaps and the pedal goes almost to the floor and hard?

Yeah it does only occasionally so hopefully it is common problem and a easy fix.

I remember reading on here a while ago of some one saying that you can disable the ABS by pulling the fuse. Probably not legal, so I wouldnt recommend it.

This would be a good way to test the fault. If it continues once ABS is isolated then its not the ABS and we should look else where.

I would start by pulling out and cleaning then reseating the ABS sensors in the hubs. They can get pushed out by vibration over time and will then send erratic signals making the ABS brain think that random wheels are locked thus activating the ABS even when all 4 wheels are firmly in contact with the road and not slipping.
The only gotcha to this ( I cleaned and reseated the sensors on my 98 a while back to cure these same issues) is that the WSM says you need to renew the seal between sensor and hub if you remove the sensor - I didn't but the WSM is probably correct because the seal is all that holds the sensor in place and once worn the sensors seem to want back out again as mine are doing now.

Thanks for some ideas now all I have to do is find some time and start the fun on them. And put in new stainless hoses to see how that changes pedal feel.
