Clutch Slave Backing Plate
I was just wondering how difference this guy makes? Is it essential to have? I have a very vague recollection of some kind of spacer between my slave and bellhousing but I may just be imagining.
Should i install one? could ther be a reason why it may not have been there in the first place? possibly to do with free play on the clutch pedal.
The manual shows it being there and states to coat with hylomar sealer on both sides but mines certainly had no signs of any sealer being used and quite possibly never had any shim or backing plate when i took it off. i've looked everywhere and can't find anything which might resemble it.

OK i couldnt really wait because i need to do this job this afternoon when i get back so i called a well known landrover mechanic in perth. he said just to put the slave back in and not worry bout the backing plate. said more than likely wasn't there and it's not required.
said once i drive it and it doesnt feel right then can think about it but his guess is that it wasnt there and it wont need it and will have the right freeplay if nothing was changed in the hydraulic system.
