    1994 discovery 200 tdi

Hello everyone can anyone give me some ideas or things to look for when purchasing a used disc. Cruiser's I know what to look for but Land Rovers are a whole different kettle of fish and know nothing about them. As the tittle says it's a 1994 discovery 200tdi. There's heaps of accessories on it, gearbox has been reconditioned (manual), the engine has had a top end rebuild, new turbo, piston and rings, all done 15000km ago. The owner has had it since 1997. I'm looking at the vehicle on Sunday , but going to see if I can have a look tomorrow.

    Any help would be great

    Cheers Woosha

Considering the lack of enquiries we get for any 200TDi parts there mustn't be many still around.

So by the sounds of it I should be staying away from the 200 tdi? Bugger it virtually had everything I wanted on a disco!

Look for a 300tdi or V8 or even td5 if money allows.

I also know of a 2002 disco one owner and no expensive spared when repairs are required. It has done 370k thou so I'm abit hesitant to have a look, it is a Td5.

My 2000 Td5 has 300+ on it. If its been looked after no probs. I read something somewhere, that Land Rover say/said that the Td5 (engine)was built/designed to last 500+... But who knows?? All depends on its previous life.

If the price is right and the vehicle is what you want dont let the fact its a 200tdi make you pass on it, at worst case a 300TDI can be fitted if you have a terminal issue.

I would suggest that you pay more attention to the condition of the vehicle, and what you can actually PROVE in the 'service history' than the number of kms.

Land Rover's are a hobby not just a vehicle - However.....parts are cheap for 300tdi bits and they are unbelievably easy to work on (especially with the collective wisdom of those on here)

500km is not uncommon before any work is needed. A land rover that has been sympathetically driven and properly maintained (according to the manual) is a joy but any abuse either in the way it has been driven or in its lack of maintenance will cause issues.

Thanks everyone for there advise, what ever I purchase will only be used for 4wd and a couple of trips to the mainland. It will be purpose build for 4wd. Looking forward to Sunday. Is there much involved in converting to a 300 tdi?

    Cheers once again
