LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 300TDi/DEFENDER 300TDi HI- QUALITY HEAD GASKET SET
That's the one I bought. Is there another more complete kit?
I'll remove my current head for now and get it checked out. Never really had big problems with it, car runs well so I'm hoping it is pretty good.
If i need be I'll look into getting new one.
Make sure the engine is cold when you undo the head bolts and undo in the reverse order of tightening.
From memory, the very rear bolts cannot be removed fully as the firewall is in the way, so you have to just secure them with wire or something.
And when refitting don't forget to do same.
Dave.

if i am going all this way to do head gasket, should i replace viscous hub and water pump in the process? never really been an issue either of them but by the looks they are original from the car. so maybe getting to service life end? or should i just not worry and keep an eye out?

yea the thermostat i already have as the new hoses too. a full set of silicone ones. new coolant on standby too. so will do water pump and fan too i guess.
i had timing belt done last year and new IP. the guys said about putting new gasket on water pump as that comes off. would it be normal procedure to have done the p gasket too? i am taking the car to him next monday. i will ask him while im there.
P gasket would be a good idea, waterpump gasket with new pump.

All the above suggestions are valid but I would rate one of these a higher priority.
ENGINE WATCHDOG TM1, Engine Temperature Sensor and Low Coolant Alarm
If you fit one of these and something fails you will save your new head.
If you don't have one of these and one of all the new bits fails, and it can happen, if you don't notice it early enough bye bye new head.
Ideally fit the monitor and new hoses etc, but if you are on a budget fit the engine monitor first.
