Engine/auto swaps D1
Hi,
I have two D1's.
I was trying to sell them however that hasn't happened so now Im looking at swapping parts off the 150k one to my 400k car.
Does a 1993 (pre serpentine belt) 3.9v8 motor that is an auto, bolt to a 3.5v8 manual gear box? (ive forgotten the box name, its the one with reverse next to first).
If the engines don't swap, then I will look at swapping the auto as well, which leads me to ask if I replace the 3.5 manual with a 1993 3.9 automatic, will I need to change wiring looms or will the computers swap over or do I need to change the computers at all.
As a mechanic, Im a brilliant cabinet maker, so this job will be going to my local rural mechanic to do the main swap, they are not sure if the 3.9 auto crank will have a different bolt pattern to the 3.5 manual crank.
Lucky me will do the rest, eg replacing heater cores, interior etc.
Cheers
Jim

The engine will bolt in, the crank back ends are all the same pattern. You will need a new spigot bush on hand for installing in the rear of the crank. As for the wiring, not sure if there's much difference before 1994. The loom only applies to the fuel injection not the trans and should be easy to work out. If in trouble just swap the inlet manifold and injectors as that is what the wiring connects to.
Not that I think you'll gain much over a light freshen up on a 3.5, the 3.9 seems to be a heavy drinker with a faint torque gain.
