    future engine upgrades

    Hello all.

As I'm new to the Landy Land I own a 1993 200TDI Discovery with the 5 speed gearbox. I'm trying to rack my brain or find information regarding an engine replacement for the girl, as I have been told that there is no longer any more heads available for these engines. What are your thoughts? I'm now in the group were horse power is leaking from my car. I'm just trying to prepare myself for when the day comes that a new engine will be required. Off topic will disco 1 gear fit into a disco 2 TD5, eg diff centres, gearbox to a TD5 auto.

    Cheers to all.

Considering the current prices of D1's you'd be best off buying a later D1 ('94-'99) with a 300TDi and transferring the best bits off your old one. Very little off an early D1 will fit the later models, D1 or D2. Flog off the old D1 to a series owner, the 200TDi engine is relatively easy to fit to those.

Question 2. What's the difference between a 200tdi head on a defender and a Discovery? As I have seen them for sale on EBAY!

you can still get tdi200 heads, there is no difference between disco and defender versions.

a tdi300 head will bolt in but making it work is more complicated than just bolt in a drive away but its not in-achievable.

if you're going to do a replacement engine a tgv2.8 is a good option and is about a much work as a tdi300.
