Headrest Grab Handle Removal
Hey folks,
I have been hunting for a thread on here about removing the headrests from my front seats in my discovery 1.
I found that some people just have standard headrests that slide out like on a normal car, however my seats have big grab handles that wrap around the headrest and connect to the seats in a couple of places.
I checked out my books and indeed these are apparently Discovery 1 seats yet i cant find anything on how to take the handles off - as i need to fit some type of universal seat covers and no covers will fit over the massive handles...
What is everyone else using for seat covers!?
Thanks

I didn't even realise the massive handles came off. I don't intend to use seat covers. I've not used them on any car before. I've not owned a 4wd that could be subject to the harsh conditions of previous cars re:mud in carpet, but I've not had a problem with a vacuum and brush down in the past.

The handles do come off, and somewhat easily once you know how.
IN order to remove, you need to strip the original seat fabric off.
once that happens, you will need to make two cuts about 4" down (iirc) from the top of seat on the rear, inline with the centering pins.
Then fish around in the cut unitl you see where the metal pins go into the brown plastic holder, there is a metal clip there.
Remove the clips, pull the headrest out. replace the clips, and once you are done with installing your cover the headrest will just lock back into place.
