Does serpentine belt only go on one way?
The ps pump pulley has a slight roughness when turning, but doesn't really wobble back n forth.
Water pump pulley spins nicely but wobbles a bit. Maybe not tight enough on bolts.
Alternator smooth as silk.
Tensioner fairly wobbly but rotates nicely.
Does serpentine belt only go on one way?
Nope, it goes on both ways, but I think they say it's good to keep it spinning always in same direction, but not sure when / where I heard that.
With belt on, try placing long screwdriver on any suspicious noise points and handle end on your ear. BUT BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL since there is belt and pulleys spinning.
should be easy enough to track down now...
I cant remember if you used a new belt or not but if you did check it for length to make sure its not a shorter fit belt and its over tensioning.

Water pump pulley bolts were slightly loose. I tightened them and noise went away but was replaced by the tensioner chirp. With a vengeance. Spraying wd40 didn't improve it. I have a new bearing and clip for the tensioner. Will change it tomorrow and check all the bolts. Not sure why they were loose. Anything special when I tighten them? I used loctite on them.
Belt was re-used as i only changed it few thou kms ago. 1 or 2.
quoting myself but was a bit scared that with water pump pulley loose that i stuffed the bearing up. i drove the car for about 15 mins as the noise got louder. now im hoping the chirping is from tnesioner bearing but wd40 didnt shut it up so im scared ive worn the pump bearing unevenly by having the pulley loose.
this a possibility?
im a nervous wreck with this car. spent so much time and $ on it im always listening for all sorts of sounds and sights and always hearing new things which i thought werent there before.
if i was a russian ww2 pilot i would have been locked up in a mental home.
After reading a number of stories about worn out belt tensioners, I wasn't going to take a risk on my mate's 300TDi so I got him a brand new one, and it doesn't make any rude noises. I suggest you just bite the bullet and buy yourself a new tensioner assembly too. The chirping is from misalignment and can't be fixed with wd40. As far as other pulley noises are concerned, check the tin pulleys for cracks. I've seen a few Range Rover tin pulleys fall apart before.
I had a new tensioner that was misaligned and needed shimming. It ate a couple of belts before I fixed it.
Just changed bearing on tensioner pulley. Still chirping. Bit disappointed. Cannot pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. When i first started it the other day was nice and quiet. Then with the loose water pump pulley started making that noise in video. Tightened pulley and went quiet but chirp started.
So, not sure if i stuffed bearing on water pump n that's the chirp or still the tensioner. Does the tensioner chirp at the spring loaded bit in the main part of the body? Like when it bounces around?
