MadMan - Temperature Sender - 150 Deg C VDO
If its qenuine it will have direction arrows on it, from memory the one thats by itself on one side goes to the expansion tank, the side with 2 are thermostat and radiator.
it makes it heat up faster as what its doing is essentially draining the head of coolant if the radiators not filled, you wind up with nothing but air on the thermostat so it wont get enough heat on it to open.

yea i think they sell that one for oil temp though. for tcase or engine oil. the oil temp setting go up to 150 i think but on the menu when i was playing with it the coolant temp was only going to a max setting of 120. how hot would the head get if all was working fine?if your coolant gets up to 105 on a hot day under load the head would be 115? is 120C enough for that measurement? might just put 120 in the head i have a spare 120 sender.
Have you felt the top hose as it warms up to see if the thermostat is opening?
Sorry been away. Yea the top hose gets warm. Feels like all the hoses get warm except the bottom radiator one. I will investigate further when my guests have left. Could be restrictions of flow as some of the silicone hoses seem to kink a bit as they are too long. Mainly the bottom one where it splits 3 ways. Not sure why this would be a problem though. Maybe my heater bypass?
As far as the vdo sender goes, the madnan can be calibrated to go up to 150c for coolant temp, was looking at wrong menu. I contacted madman in sth Africa and they explained how to change it.
Im not sure at what temp it is critical. Anything above 95 i started to pay close attention 97 was back off and 100+ was pull over and investigate.
Just saying under normal conditions it shouldnt get that hot. The only time mine got above 100 was when i had a radiator full of mud or a dead viscous coupling
