yep, no coolant flow to the heater. I did it because my heater core was leaking, Fausto did it because his barbs are shot.

Yep, no heater as no coolant flows through it to warm it up.

Is changing the heater core a big pain? Expensive? How do you defog for safe driving etc....although in Katherine I can see that wouldn't be an issue. I like the heater when its near zero.

Mine never got hot anyway so was never used. The fans will still work and ac that's all i need.

Changing matrix bit of a pain but can be done without removing the whole dash, contrary to what the workshop manual says. The pipes that go from matrix to firewall are meant to be painful too. Mine were completely stuffed (see pics).

My matrix wasn't leaking. From the outside it looks good but knowing now what my cooling system was like I'd say the insides would be cactii.

installing EGT probe finally and the rest, i have a straight egt probe. it wont go very far into the blanking plate on manifold because of the angle of the plate compared to the pipe.

can i bend the probe 45* or will this stuff it up? ive read mixed reports. one that will give you false readings as you will damage the insides of the probe and the other that people have done it.

as it is now, i can only get about 1.5 inch in if that before it hits the edge of the manifold hole which is for egr. with a 45* bend i could get it right into the main part of the manifold before turbo flange (which is ideal).

    Thanks.

I have the vdo sensor, about 100mm long and put a 45 degree bend in it. Works fine.

    bend it...

just make sure you put no force much closer than about 1/2 an inch from the business end and that you have it inserted through the compression fitting before you bend it.

if you arent too confident and can wait I'll be in area in just over a week.

I'm ok bending it, father in law here too he's good hands, built a remote control ju52 with a 9m wingspan and did all the corrogation by hand from flat sheets of alu. So he has bit of experience at bending stuff.

I'm more scared of drilling and tapping the bolt on water pump. Need a 90* drill.
