The old black expansion tanks were notorious for splitting along the seam, best replace it with a white /opaque tank.Check that the pulley grooves are all clean and the belt has no missing bits along its length.

i know about the black expansion tanks but this one apparently is a different type. the plastic is different to the original one i had before. which by the way lasted 3 years with no issues. this one which is rated heavy duty may or may not have split in 3 days. still dont know if it is from here. would they spit coolant out far or just leak?

It will spew like Niagra falls, cant say i have heard of a heavy duty black tank, as far as i knew the upgraded tanks were all opaque and not those cheap crappy clear ones you see on ebay.

Although i'm at work and cant turn the audio up i couldnt hear anything unusual in those video's.

on the video at the water pump side you can hear that clunking sound. i have checked valve clearance and lash caps, all good. the vacuum pump is quiet, the sump is quiet. the noise comes from the front near water pump like i said. i checked all pulleys, they are all tight.

still need to check the belt is right. i got it from the old owner and changed it a while ago as i didnt know how many kms the old one had done. since i bought the car i have put new alternator in so maybe i had a big pulley one before and put a smaller pulley one on. although saying that, i have never had problem with the belt and its been on there for a while. the clunk sound im sure i could hear before i did all this work. so not sure if worse now or not as i never fully investigated it before.

the expansion bottle is brand new though and by the way the water was around the engine bay it would have to have sprayed out rather than pour out. as coolant was all over the fan cowling, under radiator all over ac compressor. it got onto the fan and thrown around.

When mine split it just ran out the split and pretty much down over the steering box and not really anywhere else, how many k's on the motor ?
Could be due for big ends or possibly the balancer is loose or worn.

i originally thought big ends when i could hear the noise before i did the head. but now that i looked closer into it you cant really hear noise from the sump. the knocking sound is at the front of engine near the top. car barely just got to 250k this week. i was thinking more along lines of one of the pulleys damaged or balancer issue.

possibly if the split on mine is small it could have sprayed out due to the pressure? the steering box did have a fair amount of coolant on it but most of it was under radiator in the bottom plastic cowling. but as i said could have sprayed and hit the fan and then pushed to the bottom. near home i could hear the chirp fairly loud almost to the point where it could have been slipping belt sound (maybe due to coolant on it).

With the chirp, try pouring a little water on the inside of the belt as it is running. If it quiets it down - replace the belt or use some rubber conditioner on it.

Is the noise coming from the Injector pump? If so, check the lift pump. About to do mine - it doesn't have the odd thump noise, but it sounds like a tappet and is spilling some deisel over the front diff etc.

I have read other reports on the web where people attributed a thump noise to the lift pump - the noise is from the injector pump because it is starving for fuel. Is your motor down a little performance (especially uphill) and won't rev past 3k?

My tensioner used to chirp and jump. I washed out the bearing and repacked it, which didnt stop the chirp or jump, then I also I ran engine oil into the tensioner housing which reduced the jump and chirp but didnt eliminate it, then after a while I took it off and ran gear box oil into it, improved over a period of time and now is dead smooth and silent. The tensioner housing was never loose or worn, it ran true so I thought the jumping may have been due to internal resistance. The oil seems to have fixed it.
